Membership
Membership with the International Association of Valuers (IAV)
Joining the International Association of Valuers (IAV) is more than just becoming a member of a professional organisation; it is a mark of distinction that recognises your expertise and status as a leader in the industry.
IAV is tailored for accomplished professionals seeking recognition beyond their primary qualifications. Membership is exclusive, requiring candidates to already hold and maintain membership in a professional association aligned with their core expertise. As a second-tier accrediting organisation, the IAV offers an advanced professional qualification that builds upon each member’s foundational skills. Membership in the IAV is the professional equivalent of a master’s degree.
Membership is open to:
- Individuals
- Corporate Entities
- Associations, and
- Academia
Why Choose (IAV) Membership?
Membership with the IAV is prestigious and limited, ensuring that all members uphold the highest professional standards and integrity. Being an IAV member offers unique rights and privileges, making it not just a professional achievement but also a valuable financial asset.
Upon joining, members receive a Professional Membership Certificate (PMC), a limited and tradeable asset that reflects the exclusivity of IAV membership. Over time, these certificates have the potential to grow in value.
Eligibility for Membership
To become a member, individuals must meet specific criteria, typically including:
- A minimum of five years of post-graduate professional experience.
- Membership in a recognized professional organization (e.g., American Association of Chartered Accountants).
Membership Categories
| CHARTERED VALUER | A membership option open to existing chartered professionals, reflecting excellence and professionalism in a specialised field of valuation within their core profession. |
| CERTIFIED VALUER | A designation for professionals with significant experience and qualifications who have chosen valuation as their specialisation. |
EXECUTIVE VALUER (Chartered / Certified)
| The IAV recognises that some practising professionals take on management roles, becoming responsible for quality and risk throughout their organisation. The designation of ‘Executive’ heightens the recognition of the member’s broad valuation expertise and management acumen. It acknowledges the member’s capacity to develop and promote best practices throughout an organisation and to implement new processes and procedures that enhance the overall integrity of valuation output. An Executive Valuer must maintain some exposure to practical field work to ensure relevance. Only Executive Valuers can counter-sign another valuation as a peer reviewer. Executive membership is a natural professional progression for the ambitious practising valuer. |
FINANCIAL VALUER (Chartered / Certified)
| Valuation is a highly specialised professional pursuit, and valuations are heavily relied upon by individuals, corporate entities and Governments to conduct business. A financial valuer has an in-depth knowledge of accounting standards, tax law and other regulatory financial frameworks, which initiate the valuation (the why) as well as valuation theory and standards, which dictate the process (the how). Financial valuers typically command high fees as a result of their dual expertise. |
| VALUER REGNANT | The ultimate professional recognition for any valuer. This designation is reserved for the top 1% of the world’s most accredited valuation professionals. To be a ‘Valuer Regnant’ is to be recognised for exceptional professional practice and contributions to the profession to which your valuation expertise applies. Only an existing IAV member can achieve this recognition, and few are available. |
| CORPORATE | Open to employers of valuers and industry participants in the valuation and valuation-related professions. Corporate membership enables the employing entity to advertise itself as a member of the International Association of Valuers. Membership comes with up to 20 professional membership certificates (PMC), which the entity may allocate to qualified employees. The allocation must be approved by the IAV, and the correct designation must be awarded as part of the distribution rights. As membership to the IAV is restricted, corporate membership reduces the risk of professional scarcity and PMC’s can be traded in line with the Investor ownership model. |
| INVESTOR | This category does not allocate membership rights but affords the investor the rights of a principal. It identifies the holder of multiple Professional Membership Certificates as an investor in the future value of the PMCs. See how investors can create wealth in our investors section. |
